New Zealand Guidelines for Assessing and Managing ASBESTOS IN SOIL | ALGA
Building leaders in the sustainable management of contaminated land and groundwater

The purpose of the guidelines is to provide a methodology to ensure that management of asbestos in soil meets regulatory requirements and an acceptable level of managed risk. They follow an approach that is tailored to the remediation outcomes required for changes in land use and subdivision of asbestos- contaminated land under the Resource Management Act, but many aspects will be applicable in other cases of asbestos- contaminated land, such as continuing use as workplaces, schools or recreational land. The guidelines set conservative threshold values for determining asbestos contamination, and users should bear this in mind when applying them.
