Integrating Environment Protection Reform and Land Use Planning
Draft exposure amendments to the Victorian Planning Provisions are released for consultation on Engage Victoria. These amendments integrate planning and environmental regulation, policy and management of legacy contamination risk. They were developed by DELWP in consultation with the Environment Protection Authority, as part of the Government Response to the Independent Inquiry into the EPA, (specifically recommendations 10.4 and 14.2). This session will explore the proposed changes to Victoria’s land use planning framework in light of the EPA reforms.
We will conclude the session with audience driven questions and answers. Please email me at elearning@landandgroundwater.com with any detailed aspects of the subject you would like addressed.

Sam Johnson - Manager, Environment Reform Policy at the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning was instrumental in the development of reforms following the Independent Inquiry into the Environment Protection Authority (EPA). His work includes contaminated land policy incorporated into the Environment Protection Act 2018, the recently released supporting sub-ordinate instruments, and overseeing the pilot of the preliminary risk screening assessment. Sam’s practical experience of managing the environment for a large water corporation provides him with an appreciation of the needs of environmental duty holders and broader community, which supports his statutory policy development.
