
Queensland End of Waste Code for Biosolids and PFAS Requirements
This session will discuss Queensland’s End of Waste Code for reusing biosolids with a particular focus on the consideration of per and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), how these requirements are implemented in Queensland and future management.
Isha Sharma is Team Leader in the End of Waste (EOW) team within the Department of Environment and Science, Queensland. The EOW team is responsible for the assessment and licensing of reuse of waste as a resource. Prior to joining the department in 2010, Isha had been working on waste management and renewable energy sectors since 2005 as environmental consultant in various international organisations including United Nations, International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, and Winrock International. Isha holds both her Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Environmental Science.
Simone Ventura is a Principal Project Officer with the Department of Environment and Science, Queensland having led the departments PFAS Project Team for the past 3 years. This team is responsible for providing direction and co-ordination of policy, science, licencing and compliance activities relating to PFAS within the department. Simone also has over 7 years previous experience in environmental regulation of waste industry activities and contaminated land in Queensland.
Andrew Thomas is an Environmental Engineer with over 23 years’ experience across a wide range of engineering projects in Australian the USA and Saudi Arabia. He has a strong background in soil and groundwater remediation covering all aspects of design, construction, implementation and O&M. For the last 4 years has been delivering PFAS remediation projects Nationally and working closely with regulators to better understand the implementation of new legislation.
