Our Speakers
Nicole Ford,
DPLH (WA)
Nicole is a Senior Project Manager at the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, with over 16 years' experience in the Contaminated Sites industry. Nicole transitioned from a Consultant role to her current government position, focusing on a diverse range of contaminated sites projects, legacy issues and hazardous sites across State-managed lands throughout Western Australia. Nicole has been involved in every stage of the contaminated sites process in WA, overseeing projects aimed at improving the condition of anthropogenically impacted land. She is dedicated to protecting human health and environmental receptors and is passionate about creating future beneficial uses for these sites. Nicole excels in project management, report writing, and the organisation and execution of large-scale fieldwork programs in both metropolitan and regional areas. She has extensive experience addressing safety, logistical, and environmental challenges. Nicole has completed projects across various industries, including government, landfill facilities, chemical manufacturing, petroleum distribution, mining, property development, and heavy industry. Nicole is a current ALGA member and sits on the Women in Contaminated Sites Special Interest Group. Nicole is also a mum to two young, energetic boys and is currently training for a marathon.
Emma Harrison,
GHD
Emma is currently working as the Business Group Leader for the Contamination and Environmental Management team at GHD. She is also the North Sydney Office Manager for GHD Emma is an experienced environmental geologist and project manager, with a demonstrated history of working in the environmental (contaminated land), mining & metals industries. Emma has worked in various different consulting roles across Australia and overseas throughout her 30 year career and brings her unique perspective to any discussion.
Judith Barnes,
Senversa
Judith has been working within the contaminated sites sector for over twenty years, over the last eighteen years she has specialised in human health risk assessment. Her experience has included risk assessment, site assessment and remediation. In addition to evaluating the standard contaminants (PFAS, petroleum and chlorinated compounds) Judith has also evaluated risk from more unusual sources including tyre wear particles and tyre additives in urban run-off as well as evaluating site specific bio-availability of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Judith is currently Senversa’s NSW Lead for vapour assessment and risk assessment. In this role, she works closely with Senversa’s contaminated land auditors providing technical and interpretative advice on the risk assessment aspects of their Audits. Judith sits on the Women in Contaminated Land and Groundwater Industry Special Interest Group. She is passionate about raising the profile of women in STEM and in life more generally. Judith has two children (and a dog) and its through parenting two teenagers that she has learnt just how uncool/embarrassing she really is.
